Whether animating the words of Martin Luther King Jr. or building a cable harness for a suspended video ball, Sharif delivers thoughtful messages in effective, elegant and surprising ways.
While attending the University of Iowa's undergraduate writer's program, Sharif became fascinated by the narrative and interactive capacity of electronic media, developing a unique interdisciplinary program that combined political science, literature, philosophy and electronic arts.
Since moving to San Francisco in 2001, he has worked with a variety of clients such as Genentech, Volkswagen and East West Partners in a wide array of electronic media, from websites and DVDs to interactive kiosks and installations.
His work's artistic dimensions continue to develop through collaborations and participation in international exhibitions. His work was recently featured in Adbusters online and selected for inclusion in Electronic Literature Organization's premiere collection.
Sharif has toured extensively with human beatbox artist Yuri Lane, providing multimedia visuals for Lane's theatrical and musical performances. Each year, he helps to produce the Bay Area's Arab Film Festival, providing identity, print, web and motion graphics expertise.
Sharif likes to cook Mediterranean cuisine, play music with his friends, see films at the Castro Theatre, read everything at the Green Apple Bookstore, and hike the Bay Area's trails with his lovely wife, Catherine.
